Chris B Hughes I am a playful, pastoral, pneumanaut determined to share my passion for this life, things of the Spirit, the Gospel of Christ, the continuing discovery of God's dynamic and unfolding Creation, and our opportunity to co-create God's preferred vision for this planet so that it will be more heavenly (as in, "thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven") - more just, more interdependent, more whole-y. I graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1972, Huntingdon College in 1976 (with a B.A in Religion and Philosophy and a minor in Drama), Duke Divinity School in 1979 with an M.Div. and from Drew Theological School in 2004 with a D.Min. in Pastoral Leadership in the 21st Century. I am married to Gloria Gunn from Oklahoma and between us we have 5 children ages 19-29! I've served in various settings of The United Methodist Church including local churches, the Southeastern Jurisdiction program and ministry staff, and the United Methodist Publishing House as an editor and product developer. All along the way, I've been a traveling resource for all kinds of spiritual growth and disciple-forming events including retreats, workshops, ministry planning and consulting, revivals and worship concerts. Writing projects include the retreat section of the new United Methodist Confirmation resource called Credo and a book focusing on making young disciples. Music projects include the CDs Light the Fire and Light the Fire, Again with Ed Kilbourne and the solo CD, Holy Ground. My newest solo CD, a collection of mostly original music, is called Hourglass. My newest book, The Porpoise Given Life is hot off the press. There's an excerpt on my blog . Gloria and I have finished a CD collection of songs called Together we do on our retreats, worship services, and other events. Gloria and I are partners with Ed and Kathleen Kilbourne in The Foundation for Christian Formation. The FCF presents an annual series of Confirmation Retreats for young confirmands and their adult leaders and sponsors. I am also developing a collection of three seasons of experiential formation and three related rites/worship settings that will help mark the developmental stages and deepening commitment to lifelong discipleship that we currently cram into one Confirmation Sunday. These would include a Profession of Faith Service (in the 6th or 7th grade), a Confirmation Service (a more age-apporpriate service of commitment to the vows church membership and spiritual disciplines - in the 9th or 10th grade), and a Consecration, Co-Missioning, or "Ordination" service (in the 11th or 12th grade - after a season of vocational discernment and preparation to lead the life of a disciple after leaving the familiarity and support of the their home church). I am available, now full time, for engagements in local churches as a resource in areas including remissioning and revitalization, worship, evangelism, Confirmation and disciple formation. We can work out any time and frequency including a one or two hour program, a weekend or series of days, or a longer training and coaching relationship that would combine a series of on-site visits and virtual check-ins through Skype and other networking and social media.
